28 CCR §1300.71(h)(3)
28 CCR §1300.71(h)(3): A request for information necessary to determine payer liability from a third party shall not extend the Time for Reimbursement or the Time for Contesting or Denying Claims as set forth in sections (g) and (h) of this regulation. Incomplete claims and claims for which “information necessary to determine payer liability” that has been requested, which are held or pended awaiting receipt of additional information shall be either contested or denied in writing within the timeframes set forth in this section. The denial or contest shall identify the individual or entity that was requested to submit information, the specific documents requested and the reason(s) why the information is necessary to determine payer liability.
